crayon heart class valentines

I like to design valentines cards for Lauren to hand out to her friends/classmates each year, and this year we decided to make our own heart crayons! First I designed the cards using 3 different sayings, and then picked out crayons that went with the colour scheme. (Tip! Staples sells open stock crayons so you can buy a tin of JUST the colours you want!)

I had a few silicone heart molds already, so we just used those and they turned out great! I also got Lauren to create a few different line art drawings that I digitized and composited together to make a custom colouring page! Then we packed the crayons + colouring pages in these little pink bags, and tied the valentine cards on with yarn!

what you’ll need:

  • assorted crayons

  • silicone molds

  • parchment paper

  • baking tray

  • oven

HOW TO MAKE THEM:

start by removing the paper labels from crayons and break them into smaller pieces to fit in your molds.

start filling your molds with the crayon pieces. The crayons can stick up a bit but make sure they aren’t pointing out over the edges. you want to try and get them as full as possible.

I put a piece of parchment on my baking tray just to make clean up easier if any of the crayon wax spills over.

bake at 350 for 10ish minutes, or until the wax is completely melted. Take the tray out of the oven and let it cool on the counter or in the fridge/freezer until the crayons have hardened. Pop them out and colour away!
