one silly goose
Drew is ONE! I can’t believe it - what a year! I love first birthday parties - obviously, they are aren’t entirely necessary as your little one has no idea what’s going on, but I think it’s such a special time to really celebrate their first year with family and friends.
DECOR
I had a lot of fun with this “one silly goose” theme. Since I love hobby sewing, it was the perfect excuse to buy pretty cottage-y fabrics and sew my heart out! I made the bunting and Happy Birthday garland, sewed patchwork bucket bags for the favours, and even made goose plushies for all of the guests! I even sewed a little patchwork border around his monthly poster to add a little textured “mat” around it, and with the help of my Cricut and some felt, I made the scalloped “ONE” banner for his highchair. Lastly - I wrapped fabric around some party hats I picked up from the dollar store for each of the guests, and of course had to make mini ones for all his plush farm friends that attended the party too! Oh, and I can’t forget the special #1 party hat just for the birthday boy! Honestly, as long as I had fabric left…I couldn’t be stopped! That’s kind of the fun part of using fabric for decor, you can make anything you want and it’ll all coordinate!
I am also obsessed with the Baby Animal collection from Cuddle + Kind. I couldn’t resist the baby gosling for Drew! And the little yellow baby duckling and baby daisy made the perfect trio to complement the party decor and made for a special keepsake from the party for my littles! I love that every single Cuddle + Kind doll provides meals for children in need (the baby animals each give 5 meals!) and I will forever appreciate that each one is handmade with love.
I also found the PERFECT set of graphics to use for the party from Thread Mama! She release new spring elements (seamless patterns, Frame TV art, and more!) and they were exactly what I was looking for! I used the squiggly seamless pattern and bow artwork for the background on Drew’s monthly photo poster, and used this floral one for little scalloped placemats on top of the paper plates.
I used our coffee table for a little picnic table in our living room for the kids to snack at, and set up this cute little tent and tunnel beside it with lots of soft cushions and plush animals for a little play zone for Drew and his little friends.
FOOD
I made a carrot cake (this recipe was so good!) with whipped cream cheese frosting (this recipe had very little sugar so I let Drew have his share of his first birthday cake!) For a cake topper - I kept it simple and used this little handmade beeswax #1 candle that I found at a local shop, and added the little wooden goose beside it.
I decided to try making sugar cookies with fondant icing for the first time! I think they turned out pretty good! Instead of cupcakes, I just set out mini carrot and blueberry muffins (and used some extra fabric to make little bow toppers for each one!) I also set out other pastries, mini apple and blueberry pies, and fruit and vegetables trays for stacking on.
FAVOURS
As I mentioned already - I made a little quilted/patchwork bucket bag for each of the guests to hold all of their favours. Inside each one was a plush goose (I used this pattern and it was so easy to follow!), a scoop of play dough (Carrot Cake, Green Apple, Cotton Candy and Lemonade flavours) farm animal cookie cutters, and a sticker sheet from Dough Parlour! Dough Parlour is my favourite because they are a Canadian company, and it’s made from all natural and non-toxic ingredients!
I also added a little bag of homemade “Farmyard Friends” animal crackers. I used these little cookie cutters and a baby-friendly recipe that was really easy! I packaged them up in these sealable bags, and finished it with a cute custom sticker label!
Lauren and I had fun coming up with names for each of the geese - so I made little tags for each one with their name, and a bio on the back! I also added a name tag to each one (this always helps with handing out favours at the end of the party!)
