let's create and celebrate Lauren turning 8!
Planning this ART THEMED party for Lauren’s 8th birthday was so much fun! First of all - I found this whole art party collection of party goods from Pop Party Supplies and instantly fell in love! I sort of based the colour scheme for Lauren’s party off of their plates, using green, pink, red and blue for most of the party elements. From there, I designed her invitation (you can purchase the digital download here to customize your own!) as well a few other fun things!
Create Party by Hip Hooray Studios
Okay - now, what would an art party be without an actual art project to do as the activity?! I instantly KNEW that we needed Elise from Hip Hooray Studios to host a create party at our house to entertain Lauren’s friends. We decided on a Henri Matisse-style collage pennant craft for our party and it was so much fun! Elise handled everything - bringing all of the supplies for each guests to create their own collage pennant, set up, direction and assistance for guests while they worked on their art projects, and clean up after!
Elise offers a variety of in-person create parties that could work for almost ANY party theme (not just an art party - think cute seahorse craft for a mermaid party!) But if you’re not local to Calgary area, you can also buy her create kits to make your own craft magic from anywhere!
picnic
I also set up a little picnic outside for the kids to have some snacks and treats after the craft activity. I set the table with the pretty art plates from Pop Party Studio, and I made mini charcuterie boxes for each guest with a croissant, mini cinnabon bun, cheese, crackers and macarons. I also passed out fruit cups with berries and grapes. To make the picnic extra special, I served sparkling juice in champagne coupe glasses tied with ribbon on the stem.
Above the picnic table, I hung a variety of handmade garlands. I made them with cut pieces of paper, ribbons, ruffled streamers, and ribbons and bows.
favours
One of my favourite parts of planning birthday parties is putting together the favour! For Lauren’s art party I wanted to create little art kit bags for each guest. In each bag, I included a mini canvas+wooden easel, pad of paper, sheets of canvas paper, acrylic paint, pencil, paint brushes, eraser, felt markers, a paint palette, custom pins and a keychain.
cake
I’m absolutely not an expert, but I do enjoy making my kids’ birthday cakes! For this cake - Lauren requested a confetti cake, so I used a box mix to make it even easier! To decorate it, I added some buttercream piping details, and ribbon bows! I also placed a few of Pop Party’s art stickers on top - so fun!
DECOR
For the art activity portion of the party, I wanted to set up our dining room as “Lauren’s art studio”. So I picked up a large canvas dropcloth and cut it into different sized rectangles, shapes and squares. Lauren had fun painting anything her artistic heart desired and I just love how they all came out! I kind of collaged them together using glue, and then hung each long banner on either side of our windows. It added lots of colour and creative inspiration for the little artists working on their projects! I used my cricut to cut out the letters out of cardstock for “Lauren’s art studio” and stuck them to the window using double-sided tape (removable vinyl would be easier but I didn’t have any on hand so I used some paper I already had!)
